Beginner Violin lessons
Begin your violin journey by learning the fundamentals step by step. Start by discovering how to hold the violin comfortably and develop good posture and balance. Learn how to hold the bow with a relaxed, flexible hand and produce a smooth movement across the strings. You’ll then learn how to position your left hand, place your fingers accurately and understand the spacing between notes. Gradually, you’ll develop coordination between both hands, learn simple rhythms and begin producing a clear sound. With patience and guidance, you’ll reach that exciting first milestone—the moment you play your very first note.

Holding the violin
Good posture creates comfort, balance and freedom of movement. Keep your back relaxed, head upright, shoulders level, and violin comfortably supported between shoulder and chin. Hold the instrument gently, allowing both hands to move naturally.

Placing your fingers
Keep your fingers rounded and relaxed, placing the fingertips accurately on the strings. Aim for consistent spacing between the fingers and listen carefully to the pitch.
Good finger position develops intonation, strength and confidence while making playing more comfortable.

Holding the bow
Hold the bow gently with a relaxed, curved hand. Keep the thumb bent, fingers naturally rounded, and little finger balanced on top. Avoid squeezing or tension, allowing your wrist, hand and arm to move freely, smoothly and comfortably.

Placing the bow
Correct bow placement is essential for producing a clear, rich and controlled sound. Keeping the bow straight and positioned correctly between the fingerboard and bridge helps maintain consistent tone, volume and balance, while developing good technique and musical expression.

Placing your hand
Keep the left hand relaxed and gently curved around the violin neck. The thumb rests comfortably underneath, while the fingers remain rounded and ready to press the strings. Maintain a relaxed wrist and avoid squeezing, allowing accurate, comfortable finger placement.

Your first notes
There is something special about playing your first notes on the violin. Hearing the instrument respond to your bow and fingers creates a wonderful sense of achievement. Those first sounds mark the beginning of an exciting musical journey filled with discovery and progress.
