Intermediate Violin lessons
Take your violin playing to the next level by developing greater control, accuracy and musical expression. Explore double stops, learning to play two notes together with confidence and good intonation. Develop a relaxed, expressive vibrato to add warmth and character to your playing, while improving intonation through focused ear training and finger placement. Build strength, coordination and fluency through regular scales and arpeggios, learning to play them smoothly across different keys. You’ll also develop greater confidence moving around the fingerboard, improve bow control and discover how these techniques come together to help you play more challenging pieces with greater freedom, confidence and expression.
Technique & Tone
Technique & Tone Production focuses on developing a controlled bow arm, balanced posture, accurate left-hand placement, and efficient coordination. Students learn to shape sound through bow speed, pressure, contact point, vibrato, and articulation. The goal is a rich, resonant tone with clarity, projection, consistency, and expressive control across all registers and dynamics.
Overall Musicality
Overall Musicality develops expressive, confident, and intentional playing. Students explore phrasing, dynamics, articulation, rhythm, tone colour, rubato, musical breathing, and harmonic direction. Emphasis is placed on understanding musical structure, communicating emotion, shaping phrases naturally, listening critically, and developing an individual artistic voice through thoughtful interpretation and performance.
Bowing & Articulation
Bowing & Articulation develops control, precision, and variety in the bow arm. Students explore all different bowing patterns. Emphasis is placed on smooth string crossings, bow distribution, articulation clarity, rhythmic precision, and coordinating bow technique with musical phrasing to achieve expressive, stylistically appropriate performances
Scales & Arpeggios
Scales & Arpeggios develop intonation, fingerboard awareness, coordination, and technical fluency. Students practise major and minor scales, arpeggios, chromatic scales, and varied bowings. Advanced study includes thirds, sixths, octaves, tenths, dominant sevenths, diminished sevenths, and double-stop scales, strengthening accuracy, shifting, tone, and overall technical control.
Left hand technique
Left-Hand Technique develops finger strength, independence, accuracy, and agility. Students work on shifting, position changes, intonation, extensions, vibrato, trills, ornaments, and finger patterns. Advanced study includes rapid passages, high positions, double stops, harmonics, and left-hand pizzicato, building confidence, flexibility, precision, and expressive control across the entire fingerboard.
Expand Your Repertoire
Expand Your Repertoire introduces students to diverse composers, periods, styles, and musical forms. Explore Baroque, Classical, Romantic, modern, and contemporary works while developing stylistic awareness, interpretation, technical versatility, and performance confidence through sonatas, concertos, études, showpieces, chamber music, and solo repertoire.
